A guide to choosing the best hotel conference location in Barcelona

When it comes to choosing a hotel conference location in Barcelona, serious consideration needs to be given to which of the various ‘barrios’ or neighbourhoods to choose.

Each has its own merits and this mini guide provides a brief insight into which may be better suited to your specific needs and to the type of impression you are seeking to create for your delegates whilst in the Catalan capital:

Trendy and Smart: Choose El Born; a trendy area boasting smart restaurants and cocktail bars and favoured by seasoned wealthy travellers.

Budget-Led: looking for an affordable conference hotel in Barcelona? Poble Sec in Montjuic district is a good place to start.  Offering inexpensive accommodation and only a 10 minute train journey from the City Centre; Poble Sec is not so much a tourist attraction, but offers a friendly neighbourhood backdrop for your Barcelona conference.

Transport-Friendly: Go for Sants. Barcelona-Sants, the city’s main train station, offers rail links throughout Europe and Barcelona Airport is on the doorstep, making it the ideal location for your Barcelona hotel conference.  Sants is well known for its exhibitions, is atmospheric and picturesque with a lively night life and affordable accommodation to boot, so there is plenty of opportunity to combine your hotel conference with pleasure. Sants is also home to one of the world’s largest football stadiums, Camp Nou, which is also worth a mention on your Barcelona hotel conference itinerary.

Traditional: Gotico is said to be the heart of Barcelona and is characterised by its authentic ancient streets.  It is picturesque but has a lively night life too, as does Eixample, with its modern architecture and cultural hotspots, offering tranquillity whilst still entertaining a busy metropolitan lifestyle.

Whatever your taste and whatever your needs, there is something to suit everyone in Barcelona. All it takes is some research and your hotel conference in Barcelona will promise to be a memorable and successful event for all!

How do you tell someone politely to use their office voice?

This woman whom I work amongst is always on conference calls, and she speaks so loudly that it’s incredibly distracting and disruptive. There’s no reason that she should have to be so loud! I’m an editor, and I’m the only editor in my office, but I need for it to be fairly quiet so I can concentrate. I’ve only been with my company for three months, and she has a helluva lot more seniority than I do, so how should I handle it?

Take it up with your supervisor. She probably has to speak loud on those conference calls to be heard. Maybe she could start taking some of them in a conference room where the door can be closed.
